The President's Weekly Address: Good News on Autos, Obstruction on Small Business

From the White House blog:

President Obama praises the successes of the auto industry restructuring as good news for our economy, and calls on Republican leaders in the Senate to “stop holding America’s small businesses hostage to politics” by blocking a vote to help them create jobs.

Once again, the President explains his actions and calls out the "Party of NO". I had mixed feelings on the loans for the Auto Companies. I supported it, yet was afraid we would lose money.

Again, as I said the President calls out the Rethugs on their obstructionism. The Small Business Act is the latest.

I am loving the President calling them out and letting everyone who will listen where he stands and where they stand. This is something that is very needed. If people will just open their eyes and ears and see and listen....lol I know, asking for a lot, aren't I?

Maybe, just maybe if enough of us do this... and people can see it, they will realize how much the Rethugs are hurting this country. One can only hope.

It's great news! Even though things are moving slow at least they are moving FORWARD and not backwards like the thugs would be taking us! Just listen to the ridiculous words from Phyllis Schlafly and we hear where the right wants us to be, in the dark ages!!

I certainly hope that people go to vote in November will remember all that the Republicans did and didn't do. But of course, that's a pipe dream. It's hard to make them understand that we're in this mess because of the Republicans in the first place.

Sue, I try not to listen to things like that....lol Yes, it is good news and I am happy to hear it and repeat it over and over again.

Lisa, I too don't hold out much hope for a lot of people. They seem to forget so easily and choose not to see what is plain as can be.

A close relative is a pollster. He tells me that elections are about turnout, and the big problem the Democrats face in November is that two key elements of the Obama coalition -- young people and minorities -- are also the ones least likely to vote in any election. So, without Obama at the top of the ticket, it's extra hard for Democrats in an off year when they hold the White House.

He also says that most incumbents will be reelected, despite all the noise about throwing the bums out, and that it's the open seats we have to worry about.

I know K, that's why I keep saying we have to motivate people and try to get out the vote. Remind people what it was like under the Rethugs and ask if that's what they want again. Hopefully, that will get them moving and get them to vote and be excited about it. It is all about the excitement.

And we can motivate young people by volunteering to work at the phone banks a couple of hours a week - and by talking to them one on one when the opportunities arise.

Yes, I agree Leslie.. We have to do all we can to motivate and excite. Phone banks work.. I worked them during the 2008 campaign and it was a lot of fun and it helped.

It's all about GOTV efforts at the midterms (and I guess at all elections, now that I think about it, duh!), and I am so glad The Prez is putting the GOP obstructionism front and center. Just the fact that they have been so "pro-small-business" and fought the bill for small business tooth and nail, and the recent 9/11 responders bill, not letting it even get to the floor (Go, Rep. Weiner!) should be enough for anyone paying attention to get that the Rethugs just want to fight any progress whatsoever, no matter how immoral that is.

Thanks, Annette, for the great post. We're eye-to-eye on this one, Girlfriend! :)
