President's Weekly Address

With Labor Day approaching, the President commits to rebuilding the economy so that a lifetime of hard work leads to a comfortable retirement, and explains his proposal to help to get there.

I don't know how anyone can not listen to this man and feel confident and hopeful that things are going to be well. How anyone is afraid of him is beyond me. Other than they are just ignorant. Plain and simple.

The people who are afraid are the ones who fear the kind of change they see coming: A country no longer run by white men who talk big and carry a big stick in the bargain. It's especially tough on the wingnuts because so many of their own were in charge for so long. The country threw them out and now they are frightened and resentful.

Sue is right. But part of the fear factor, if you will, is the fear of rich corporations that they will finally have to be accountable, put their profits in check, and pay their fair share. Thus the astroturf efforts. Putting fear into the hearts of working class folks has always been a successful GOP strategy, and with only 25% of Americans self-identifying as Republicans, fear is their only shot at eventually regaining power.

The thing that really ticks me off is the mainstream media buy-in. They sure didn't cover the number of liberals now attending recess meetings, or the actual themes of the President's speech to schoolchildren. Not that I should be surprised, at this point...

Annette, I really love that you put the weekly address up on your blog. A great public service, my Dear! Thanks much.
