Pres. Obama Spoke to the World

Our President spoke to the world this morning, from Cairo, Egypt. He outlined his personal commitment to engagement with the Muslim world, based upon mutual interests and mutual respect, and discusses how the United States and Muslim communities around the world can bridge some of the differences that have divided them.

This was, I believe a speech only he could give. I heard someone say that Bush gave speeches like this, but I don't remember him ever giving anything like this in 8 years. For one thing he would never have been this well received anywhere in the Muslim world.

Bush certainly never gave a speech like this. He may have said some similar things, but he was lying. When Obama says it, he means it.

And Obama's actions back up his rhetoric - we're moving to get out of Iraq and close Gitmo. It's not just what Obama says, but what he does.

Plus, his oratorical skills are so superior to Bush's its laughable. The Sean Hannitys of the world like to make fun of Obama by saying anyone can read a teleprompter, but there's clearly more to it than that. There's pitch and cadence and not having a ridiculous cowboy accent. And not smirking.

The list of differences keeps growing.

Thanks for commenting Brian. Yes, I agree. You are so correct and it is very obvious the differences and I love when Hannity, Limbaugh and the rest keep attacking, because when they do, Pres. Obama just keeps getting stronger.

I'm still catching up. Work is goingn to be intense for the next few weeks and that's keeping me behind the curve with all this stuff. But from the bits I've been able to listen to it sounds like a truly great speech. There are all sorts of factions who'll find things to dislike in it, but that's the nature of the problems that exist and he's telling the truth about them.

I made a point to watch from beginning to end, not just the snips shown on cable news all day.

Contrast this to Bush's disasterous speech to the U.N. Obama's speech re-opens our dialogue with the muslim world & attempts to engage everyone. Bush was only interested in shutting down dissent & getting things his own way.
