Part 3 of 3, First TV Interview of Dr. King

Part 3 of the interview with Martin Luther King, from 1957 on the PBS show, Open Mind. Yes, they called it Open Mind. This show was called "New Negro" and they talked exclusively to Dr. King about how African American's could fit into the world and into the US. Quite interesting and provocative interview.. or grilling almost.

Part 2 of 3, First TV Interview of Dr. Martin Luther King

Here is Part 2 of the interview from the PBS Program, The Open Mind, called "the New Negro". Way to Tick someone off before you even start talking.

Part 1 of 3, First TV Interview of Dr. Martin Luther King

These are said to be the first Television Interviews Dr. Martin Luther King ever did. They were done in 1957. It is in 3 parts and I will post them separately. They are scratchy, but remember they are getting a little old...lol

Still they are very good. All together they are about 30 minutes long. Here is part one of the "New Negro" That's what they called him and all African Americans then. The name of the program on PBS is "Open Mind". Yes, you read that correctly. I hope you enjoy these.. They are very enlightening and very interesting.

Bill Moyers Journal . Rage on the Airwaves

Last night, July 24th, Bill Moyers presented this piece about hate speech. He is not saying the hosts are guilty, it is the ones pulling the trigger who are guilty, but words do have consequensces, and the talkers should remember that.

He says he will be attacked and I am sure he will be, by the talkers for calling them out. They like playing the victim, just as they did when Dr. Tiller was killed.

We have to try to do something about this. Just recently we here on the left, (bloggers and just people in general) started a writing, emailing and phone calling campaign to get Pat Buchanan off MSNBC and so far it has worked. We can do it with these other people if we all band together, but only if we

1) stop listening or watching them ourselves.. even if it is just to see what they are saying,
2) start writing, calling, emailing the advertisers of the shows and letting them know we won't stand for this hate speech any longer.

It is the advertisers who will stop it. Not Fox News, not EIB or any other station or broadcasting network..they don't care, the advertisers are where the money is, and once they start losing money, by hearing from us and then by us NOT BUYING the products they sell, then we can do something about it.

That's what it will take. But it is up to you, and you, and YOU!

Torturing Democracy

This was something I found that Sully had posted yesterday... thought it was interesting so I read it and thought I would post it. There are 6 video's but they are not long.

At the web site, Torturing Democracy is an interactive timeline you can look at and see what our country has been through in the torture debate, and how we have stood. It also outlines the memos and the stances the Shrub Mis-Administration took on all of it.

Very interesting. I spent a little time there reading and learning. They have 3 videos you can watch that are compelling stuff. This should be on the TeeVee Machine and people should be watching it.

This is why we are so torn, people do not know the real story behind all of this. This is the type of thing people need to see. Here are the video's.. Like I said there are 6, but they are only about 1 minute or so each.

Torturing Democracy Clip # 1

Torturing Democracy Clip # 2

Torturing Democracy Clip # 3

Torturing Democracy Clip # 4 Probably one of the most important.

Torturing Democracy Clip # 5

Torturing Democracy Clip # 6 This is the longest, but very chilling.

This was done by PBS, according to some of the comments.. but I don't know if it was ever played. It should be on all broadcast networks for everyone to see. Over and over again.

If we can see pictures of Pres. Obama shaking hands with Hugo Chavez played 100 times a day, and be told it is a scandal, why is this not being played over and over and being told it is a crime?

I hope you will take the time to visit the web site, Torturing Democracy and look at the information they have there.. it is very informative.

Bill Moyers video about the conflict in the Middle East.

This is such a hard subject to talk about and write about still. I just couldn't do it the other day and so only posted copies of news reports I found. I am still struggling with this. We are 14 days into this situation in the Middle East with no resolution in sight. This video is one of the most sensible I have seen on it. At least he has a level head on his shoulders. Of course Bill Moyers always does. But he talks about it in a clear, concise manner.

Watch this, and listen to what he says.

Here is a link to the Miller story he spoke of in the video.

Some other thoughts, the UN issued a resolution to stop this insanity and Israel and Hamas both said no. Here is Israel's response:

The Israel Air Force has dropped leaflets on the Gaza Strip warning residents that it plans to escalate its two-week-old offensive.

The army says it has dropped the fliers throughout Gaza. It says the notices are meant as a "general warning."

The notice says Israel is about to begin a "new phase in the war on terror." It says it will "escalate" an operation that already has killed more than 800 Palestinians.

How can they justify a new escalation of this "operation" when they have already killed 800 people in Gaza? This is just craziness. More than 1/3 of these 800 deaths are children...CHILDREN...and there are more than 3,000 wounded and over 1/3 of them are children...CHILDREN.

Glenn Greenwald asks in Salon at his blog:

I have a question for supporters of the Israeli attack on Gaza: Prior to the Iraq War, if it were known that the war would last six years, that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis would die and millions more would be internally and externally displaced, there would presumably have been some number of supporters of the U.S. invasion who would have changed their minds, concluding that the costs (human, financial and otherwise) were too great to render the invasion justifiable.

For supporters of the Israeli war in Gaza: is there some number of Palestinian civilian deaths that, once exceeded, renders this war unjustifiable? 1,000? 10,000? 25,000? Or is the idea that because Israel is justified in the mission itself, then the number of Palestinian civilian deaths is irrelevant -- i.e., Israel should do what it thinks it needs to do and, provided it exercises some form of "restraint," then it is justified regardless of how many innocent human beings (Palestinians) die as a result?

I would like to know the answer to that also. How many would it take??
