The President's Weekly Address: Wall Street Reform & Main Street

From the White House blog:

The President explains how Wall Street Reform will not only end bailouts and bring accountability for big banks, but empower consumers, shareholders and community banks.

Once again the GOPers in the Senate are playing games. After months of debate and meetings to draw up a plan for Wall Street Reform, they are now claiming they were shut out of the process. Sound familiar?

Yes, they are doing the same thing they did about Health Care.

We must have Reform on Wall Street.. if not the same things could happen again and again. Even if this bill isn't perfect as the President said, it is better than what we have now. They will always find loopholes, they spend millions of dollars just to keep lawyers busy finding them.

The majority of people polled by NBC/Wall St Journal were more concerned about this than they were the terrorist on Times Square. Does that not tell you we really need this done?

Push your Senators to get this done... Even the GOPers need to hear from you.. I know it seems like a wasted effort to call them.. but they have to hear from us about how we want this done.. If enough people call them and let them know their jobs are on the line.. Maybe.. just MAYBE, they will stop obstructing and get this done.

When dealing with republicans, you must look at what they do, not at what they say. It is best to watch them with the sound turned off.

I agree JC.. and that's what I usually do.. I have to put up with Kit Bond as my GOPer Senator.. So trust me I know how stupid they can be.

The GOPers not obstructing?? That would be the day. Democrats will have to go it alone for the next 3 years. I hope the people in this country learn who the real workers are!

The R's have been cynical even for them on this one -- Bob Corker (TN) was part of the negotiating team, the Democrats have accepted many Republican amendments, and the Repubs have turned down opportunities to be part of the process.

Anyway, what kind of reasoning is this? The question for them is, do we need financial regulation or not? If you don't think so, please explain why. If you do think so, explain why this bill is so egregious that not a single member of your caucus supports it? (I don't think it will come to that, but with this gang, who knows?)

I agree Sue, it does seem to go against their nature lately.. but I still think they need to hear from everyone.. If we don't speak out, we are as guilty as the bankers for not trying to get it done.

You are spot on K, however I still think it will get done.. Or at least I am very hopeful... If only there were more Democratic members of Congress to get on the Tee Vee Machine and call them out.. The president did very well this week I think, but we need more than just his voice on this.
