The concept of pirates taking over ships in the 21 century does seem rather absurd.
the reason some ships don;t carry guns is 2 fold--
some cargos are highly flammable (oil tankers)
& certain ports of passage have a whole different set of stopping & inspection points if they do carry weapons.
Maritime & regional laws.
It is pretty clear they need to have a military escort for ships in the somalia region.
I say blow them all away! Actually, I do believe this will end up a fight on the shores of Somalia though. It has to be stopped. I'm not smart enough to have all the answers, but I'd like to see more positive steps being taken.
